Itinerary

Day 1-2

Arrive in Porto & Relax before exploring the city in depth

Arrive in Porto and check into your hotel. In the afternoon, take a walking tour of the historic downtown and discovering Porto's exquisite cuisine. Enjoy your first evening of your ultimate Portuguese adventure.

The next morning, enjoy some time taking in the sights along the Douro River before exploring Porto's Top Sights! The Church of São Francisco is a must for architecture lovers with its Gothic exterior, dating back to the 13th century when it was founded by Franciscan friars as part of their convent. The interior is a fabulous feast for the eyes with its intricate Baroque decor, all covered in a shimmering layer of gold leaf. Continue your morning tour at the Stock Exchange next door, being sure to visit the incredibly ornate Arabian Hall.

In the afternoon, treat your self to a tasting of the city's various port cellars before taking in the views from a boat ride along the Douro and wrapping up your day of sightseeing with a visit to the House of Music, whose innovative design immediately became an icon of the city. Enjoy a concert in this beautifully designed space to end your day on a memorable note.

The Church of São Francisco is a must for architecture lovers with its Gothic exterior, dating back to the 13th century.

Day 3

Lunch & Visit with a Viscountess

Depart Porto in the morning, taking a scenic two-hour drive into the Douro Valley.

Stop at several villages for plenty of photo ops and stretch breaks along the way, meeting a local Viscountess to learn more about the history of the area, her family, and their estate. Enter the old kitchens where you'll learn to cook using the original wood-burning stoves before indulging in the hearty lunch you helped prepare.

Day 4

Douro Valley Wine Exploration

Learn why the Douro Valley is famous for its delectable wines on this exclusive wine and cheese tasting experience. Enjoy a delicious lunch while you can appreciate the history of the Emblematic Quinta. Aside from its important architectural heritage, the Quinta is also appreciated for its parks and gardens, where rare species of trees flourish, some of which have been around for over a hundred years.

In the afternoon, visit the sacred sanctuary of Nossa Senhora dos Remédios, located on the hill of St. Stephen in the town of Lamego, and considered to be a major pilgrimage site in Portugal.

Enjoy a delicious lunch while you can appreciate the history of the Emblematic Quinta.

Day 5

Madeira in a Day

Take a flight to Madeira in the morning and spend the day exploring this beautiful island. Explore the lush Botanical Gardens, one of the most beautiful gardens in the country with gorgeous views over the city of Funchal.

Continue with a visit to the Funchal Cathedral, a fascinating blend of architectural styles, from its meld of Gothic and Romanesque exterior to the interior boasting the best of Portuguese, Spanish, Italian, Flemish, and Mudéjar elements.

Enjoy lunch in one of the many cafes and restaurants lining the streets before strolling through the São Tiago Fortress, now a contemporary art museum. Treat yourself to one of the island's local delicacies, like decadent chestnut cakes and cherry-infused liqueur!

Explore the lush Botanical Gardens, one of the most beautiful gardens in the country with gorgeous views over the city of Funchal.

Day 6

Coimbra & Tomar

Return to mainland Portugal this morning, where you'll spend the day touring the picturesque town of Coimbra. Take a guided tour of its university, the oldest in Portugal, whose uniforms served as the inspiration for the Harry Potter films! Book lovers will delight in the university's library, which is a World Heritage Site.

In the afternoon, visit the town of Tomar and the Convento de Cristo, a medieval castle that was built as headquarters for the secretive Knights Templar.

Take a guided tour of Coimbras' University, the oldest in Portugal, whose uniforms served as the inspiration for the Harry Potter films!

Day 7

Evora & Obidos

In the morning, step back in time on a historic walking tour of Evora – the entire town is a World Heritage Site! Take in the distinct Manueline architecture that graces the royal palaces and visit an ancient Roman temple dedicated to Diana. Afterwards, wander the narrow streets that lead to graceful, flower-lined plazas.

Travel to Obidos for lunch and stroll the cobbled streets lined with quaint white-washed buildings before visiting a cork factory and learning about the town's contributions to preserving one of the world's favourite beverages – wine!

Take in the distinct Manueline architecture that graces the royal palaces and visit an ancient Roman temple dedicated to Diana.

Day 8

Private Visit to the Gulbenkian museum

Discover the exquisite pieces of the Gulbenkian Calouste Museum during your private visit with an art restorer. The museum is considered one of the most important in Portugal as it is home to stunning works of European art and sculpture spanning from the 11th to the mid-20th century.

The main gallery is only enhanced by special exhibits, which include paintings by Francesco Guardi, 18th and 19th century English paintings, and a superb collection of jewels and glass by René Lalique. Aside from the incredible works on display, the museum itself stuns by using its innovative structure to fuse nature and art, resulting in a sensational experience for the visitor.

Then introduce yourself to Lisbon, and its wonderful culinary delights, with a walking and food tasting tour of the Alfama and Mouraria districts. The two districts neighbour each other in Lisbon's Old Town and feature lovely cobblestone streets that wind up to the Castelo de São Jorge. Be sure to stop at the many miradouros (lookouts) and patios for breathtaking panoramas of the city.

Be sure to save time to visit Belem, another district overlooking the River Tagus, and home to Lisbon's impressive maritime history, several museums and galleries, and the delightful, ubiquitous custard tart, the pastel de nata.

Aside from the incredible works on display, the Gulbenkian Calouste museum itself stuns by using its innovative structure to fuse nature and art.

Day 9-10

Estoril, Cascais, & Sintra

Hop aboard your private sailboat in Lisbon and navigate through the Tagus River to the Atlantic Ocean where you'll have postcard-perfect views of Belém and the Estoril Coast as you sail towards Cascais.

Upon arrival in Cascais, enjoy lunch (and the views) at a great seaside restaurant in this quaint fishing town before visiting a private palace in Sintra.

A visit to this private palace, built in the 19th century by the dukes of Cadaval. The current owner, the Countess of Cadaval, will be your host to show you the stunning interior and the grounds. For the last sixty years renowned artists have played during the Sintra Festival in the Italian inspired gardens offering a beautiful view over the Atlantic sea and the mountains of the Serra de Sintra. Wrap up your afternoon enjoying a wine tasting at the palace.

After your exciting and memorable day, return to your hotel for your last night in Portugal. The following morning, enjoy one last breakfast in Lisbon, and perhaps another pastel de nata before your flight home.
