Itinerary

Day 1

Arrive Barcelona

After settling into your hotel, treat yourself to a few hours enjoying the rides and attractions at Tibidabo Park, where the young (and young-at-heart) can satisfy their need for adventure, while taking in some of the best views the city offers. Relax afterwards by taking a stroll through the famous Park Güell, being sure to pose for a photo beside the charming mosaic lizard.

Find a spot along the oft-photographed serpentine bench that offers another stunning view over the city before exploring the many tapas bars to wrap up your first night in Spain.

Tapas Walking Tour: Take the guesswork out of discovering the best tapas in Barcelona on this guided walking tour through the bustling streets of this food-loving city.

Day 2

Barcelona's Architectural Wonders

Gaudi's Barcelona: Enjoy a leisurely breakfast at your hotel, before taking a tour of La Sagrada Familia, Gaudi's masterpiece cathedral that has become iconic of the city itself. Spend some time visiting the interior of this massive structure and the spectacular play of light the vibrant stained glass windows create on the walls and floors, before taking the elevator up to appreciate the views from the top of the spires.

After lunch, take a stroll down the Passieg de Gracia, one of Barcelona's largest avenues. This picturesque, tree-lined avenue is considered to be one of the poshest addresses in the city and is just as well-known for the boutiques and luxury shops lining its streets as it is for being home to two of Gaudi's most iconic buildings – La Pedrera and Casa Batllo.

Admire the magical roofline of the colorful Casa Batllo, looking much like the curving spine of a dragon or fanciful sea monster, before continuing up the avenue for some shopping or an afternoon break in one of the many cafes.

Private Tour of La Pedrera: The most famous of Gaudi's residential buildings scattered throughout the city, La Pedrera was not welcomed by the city when it was first unveiled. In fact, "La Pedrera" is a nickname meaning "the quarry" given to the building by the public because, in their opinion, it resembled an open rock quarry more than an apartment building.

Learn more of the building's secrets on this private, after-hours tour where you will be granted special access to parts of the building normally kept closed to the public. At the end of your tour, toast the experience with a glass of cava as you take in the sunset from the roof terrace!

Day 3

The Gothic Quarter

Private Tour of Picasso Museum: Picasso may have been born in southern Spain, and he may have spent most of his life in France. However, it was Barcelona where Picasso spent his formative years, developing his distinct style, and it was Barcelona that he considered to be his home more than any other place he lived.

Visiting the Picasso Museum in Barcelona is a must for anyone wishing to understand the artist and his works, and you'll have the opportunity to explore the collection in-depth on your private guided tour. Amongst the 4,000+ works housed in the museum's permanent collection are important works of Picasso's from 1917 and the Las Meninas series (1957), a sequence of variations on Velasquez's famous work housed in Madrid's Prado Museum.

Mosaic Workshop: You may have noticed that many of Barcelona's buildings are decorated with ceramic mosaics. Learn more about this colourful art form and create your own souvenir to bring home in an exclusive workshop.

Granada & Ronda

Private Visit to the Alhambra: Enjoy a private visit to the Alhambra, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This sprawling complex encompasses a jaw-dropping twenty-six acres with over a mile of defensive walls, thirty towers, and many other small structures.

Learn more about this last testament of the Nasrid Dynasty, the last Islamic kingdom in Western Europe, as you take in the views the site offers across the entire city.

Visit an Aristocratic Ranch: The sport of bullfighting is synonymous with Spain, and no visit would be complete without learning more about this centuries-old tradition. Your hosts on this excursion are an aristocratic family who have been raising world-class "toro bravo," or brave bulls, for generations.

Get an unparalleled glimpse behind-the-scenes into the world of bullfighting, as you learn about the breeding, rearing, and care of these toro bravo as their life takes them from the ranch into the bull ring.

Day 5

Day Trip to Gibraltar

Gibraltar: Leave Spanish soil for the day and explore Gibraltar, the little British enclave that sits at the tip of the Iberian Peninsula. Be sure to spend some time relaxing on one of the four sandy beaches that stretch along the territory's coastline. Take a break from Spanish cuisine (if you wish) and eat a proper fish and chips for lunch then work it off with a short hike (or cable car ride) up the Rock of Gibraltar.

The views here are stunning, and from the Upper Rock, you can see Spain, Morocco, and Gibraltar at the same time. Pose for pictures with the famous Barbery macaques who call the 400-meter-high plateau home – but be careful! They're not shy and will sometimes take food or other objects from you!

Day 6

Seville

Seville is a city that seduces the senses, and you'll soon find yourself won over by the charm of its winding medieval lanes, striking architecture, and nightlife of vibrant tapas bars and expressive flamenco.

Begin your day with a private tour of the Royal Alcázar Palace, a stunning masterpiece of Mudéjar architecture – the blend of Moorish and Renaissance architecture that is unique to Andalusia. In the afternoon, be amazed by the city's cathedral – the largest Gothic cathedral (and the third-largest church) in the world!

The sprawling structure encompasses a whopping eighty chapels and boasts the longest central nave in Spain. Built atop the city's former mosque, you can climb the famous Giralda bell tower, once the mosque's minaret, and all that remains of the original Islamic structure. Both the Alcázar and the Cathedral are UNESCO World Heritage sites.

Private Flamenco Performance: Andalusia, and Seville, are world-renowned for flamenco, the expressive, emotive musical art form traditional to the region. Learn more about the music, dance, and song that make up this art form during a magical private performance.

(Sherry) Wine & Dancing Horses

Dancing Horses: Jerez de la Frontera, a small Andalusian town known around the world for two things: its sherry wine and its incredible dancing horses. Visit the Royal Andalusian School of Equestrian Art to learn more about this beautiful art form, from the special breed of Andalusian horse, to the maintaining of classic Spanish baroque horsemanship.

You'll be treated to a spectacle of the "dancing stallions," which many liken to an equestrian ballet, complete with quintessential Spanish music and costumes like those worn in the eighteenth century. End your tour to this lovely town with a sherry wine tasting to learn more about Jerez's other claim to fame.

Day 8

Cordoba

Many unknowing travellers overlook this jewel of a city in favour of spending more time in Granada or Seville, but visiting this culturally-rich city is a must, even for first-time visitors to Spain. Like its more popular Andalusian cousins, Cordoba has its own architectural treasure to visit – the Mezquita, also known as the Mosque-Cathedral of Cordoba.

From the outside, admire the flying buttresses and other architectural features reminiscent of a cathedral. The interior, however, is the Mezquita's main draw, featuring nineteen doors along the north side that flood the space with light and a sense of openness to admire the 850-plus vibrant red and white double arches. Entrance to the complex is through the Patio de los Naranjos, a picturesque courtyard filled with orange, palm, and cypress trees.

Spend your afternoon exploring the Historic Center and the Jewish Quarters. The former is defined by its tightly-clustered white houses decorated with aromatic pots of jasmine and geraniums. If you're lucky enough to visit during May; many of the quarter's homes open their private patios and courtyards to the public during the enchanting Feria de los Patios. This is where homeowners vie for the title of best-decorated patio in the city.

The enchanting narrow lanes of the Jewish Quarter offer a pleasant way to stroll off the midday meal and explore quaint plazas, museums, and shop for clothing, crafts, or jewellery to bring home.

Day 9-10

Madrid

Private Visit of the Museo del Prado: The Prado Museum houses one of the most important collections in the entire world, boasting such names as Bosch, Titian, El Greco, Rubens, Velázquez, Goya, and Madrazo. Take in the approximately 9,000 works presented in this gorgeous space – created by King Ferdinand VII to promote Spanish art – on a private tour while the museum is closed to the public.

Spain's Capital: Finish your Spanish Sojourn in the dynamic capital city of Madrid. Stroll the iron-and-glass-clad San Miguel Market, the ultimate foodie destination in Madrid, where you can sample just about anything you're in the mood for, from delicate pastries, exquisite Spanish hams, croquettes, fresh produce, and more! All this washed down with a glass of sherry or Rioja wine. Do as the Spaniards do and simply wander the stalls, stopping to sample whatever grabs your attention.

Following your afternoon siesta, visit the massive Royal Palace and neighbouring Sabatini Gardens before admiring the painted façades of the Plaza Mayor and enjoying an afternoon aperitif at one of the many cafes lining the plaza. The perfect evening to end off your amazing trip!

In the morning, after breakfast, Say "adios" to Spain and fly home, ready to share the stories of your adventures with friends and family back home.
