Itinerary

Day 1

Arrival into the city of Amman

Meet and assist by Jordan Skies representative upon arrival at Amman Queen Alia International Airport.

Amman is a great example of providing many modern luxuries, while still retaining its uniquely Jordanian in cultural and historical relevance. The ever-expanding city, originally built on seven hills, dates back to the Stone Age when our Neolithic ancestors roamed the earth.

Amman exemplifies the evolution, development and survival of a small city through its expansions during the Early Bronze Age, its development as a city state through the Iron Age and into its role in Assyrian, Babylonian and Persian empires.

The city, known by several different names such as Amman, Ammon, Rabath-Ammon and Philadelphia, played key-roles in multiple civilizations.

Many travelers enjoy the ancient ruins—the historic Amman Citadel, the Roman Temple of Hercules, and the 8th-century Umayyad Palace complex.

Day 2

Amman City Tour - Jerash - Ajloun - Amman

Breakfast at the hotel, then drive to ancient city of Amman to visit Amman Citadel Top choice ruins in Amman the area known as the Citadel sits on the highest hill in Amman, Jebel Al Qala’a (about 850m above sea level), and is the site of ancient Rabbath-Ammon.

Occupied since the Bronze Age, it's surrounded by a 1700m-long wall, which was rebuilt many times during the Bronze and Iron Ages, as well as the Roman, Byzantine and Umayyad periods. There's plenty to see, but the Citadel's most striking sights are the Temple of Hercules and the Ummayad Palace.

Roman Theater: This magnificently restored theatre is the most obvious and impressive remnant of Roman Philadelphia, and is the highlight of Amman for most foreign visitors. Head North to visit Jerash the Greco-Roman city, Jordan's largest and most interesting Roman site, and a major tourist drawcard. Its imposing ceremonial gates, colonnaded avenues, temples and theatres all speak to the time when this was an important imperial centre.

Proceed to visit Ajloun Castle: This historic castle was built atop Mt ‘Auf (1250m) between 1184 and 1188 by one of Saladin’s generals, ‘Izz ad Din Usama bin Munqidh (who was also Saladin’s nephew). The castle commands views of the Jordan Valley and three wadis leading into it, making it an important strategic link in the defensive chain against the Crusaders and a counterpoint to the crusader Belvoir Fort on the Sea of Galilee in present-day Israel and the Palestinian Territories. Day 3

Amman - Madaba - Mount Nebo - Petra

Breakfast at the hotel then drive to visit Madaba; The amiable market town of Madaba is best known for a collection of Byzantine-era mosaics.

The most famous of these is the map on the floor of St George’s Church, but there are many others in different parts of the town, several of them even more complete and vibrantly colorful. then drive to visit Mount Nebo; where Moses is said to have seen the Promised Land, a land he was himself forbidden to enter. It's believed that he died aged 120 and was later buried in the area, although the exact location of the burial site is the subject of conjecture.

Day 4

Exploring Petra

Breakfast at the hotel, head to the site to visit Petra: Top choice archaeological site in Petra. The spectacular sandstone city of Petra was built in the 3rd century BC by the Nabataeans, who carved palaces, temples, tombs, storerooms and stables from the soft stone cliffs.

Today it is a World Heritage Site that needs little introduction; suffice to say, no visit to Jordan is complete without exploring the remarkable Ancient City. The Ancient City is approached through the 1.2km-long, high-walled Siq – a crack in the rock, torn apart by tectonic forces.

Just as you start to think there’s no end to the Siq, you catch breathtaking glimpses ahead of the most impressive of Petra’s sights, the Treasury, known locally as Al Khazneh.

Carved out of iron-laden sandstone to serve as a tomb, the Treasury gets its name from the misguided local belief that an Egyptian pharaoh hid his treasure in the top urn.

The Greek-style pillars, alcoves and plinths are truly masterpieces of masonry work. Return to the hotel at Petra for overnight.

Day 5

Jeep adventure in Wadi rum

Breakfast at the Hotel then transfer to Wadi Rum which is everything you’d expect of a quintessential desert: it is extreme in summer heat and winter cold; it is violent and moody as the sun slices through chiselled siqs (canyons) at dawn or melts the division between rock and sand at dusk; it is exacting on the Bedouin who live in it and vengeful on those who ignore its dangers.

For most visitors, on half- or full-day trips from Aqaba or Petra, Wadi Rum offers one of the easiest and safest glimpses of the desert in the region. It is an unforgettable way of stripping the soul back to basics. Head to your camp at Wadi Rum for dinner and overnight.

Day 6

Head towards the Dead Sea

Breakfast at the hotel, drive to Dead Sea: At 431m below sea level – the lowest point on earth – the Dead Sea is a body of intense blue water, polished smooth like oiled skin on a windless day in winter and ruffled into whitecaps by the summer winds.

The therapeutic waters of the Dead Sea, combined with the Jordan Valley’s fertile land and warm climate, have attracted people to live, hunt, and farm in the area as early as the Stone Age. One of the world’s most amazing places, the Valley, is a dramatic, beautiful landscape, which at the Dead Sea, is over 410m (1,312 ft.) below sea level making it the lowest point on the face of the earth.

While over 200 archaeological sites have been discovered, many more are still waiting to be found.

The area is full of biblically important sites as it is where God first spoke to man, where He gave His Ten Commandments to Moses, where Job suffered and was rewarded for his faith, and where Jacob wrestled with the angel of God. This is also the site of ancient Sodom and Gomorrah, the site of the story of Lot, and where Lot’s wife was turned into a pillar of salt.
